Against the backdrop of speculation rocking the world of chess that US grandmaster Hans Niemann may have used a sex toy to cheat, Swedish pleasure brand RFSU has launched a cheeky outdoor campaign. For me, though, it was this statement from its brand manager that stood out the most:
Finally, sex toys get their well-deserved time in the spotlight. However, we want to nuance the cheating accusations, since sex toys are incredible shortcuts to get people on top of their game in bed.
Dismembered Moments Luxury Candle
That canned water brand Liquid Death has come out with a candle in the shape of a hacked off hand clutching one of its products should be no surprise. What is delightfully surprising is its side-splitting promotion of said candle in a spot fronted by Martha Stewart, who gives a note-perfect, darkly funny performance.

The Motivations of Male Metal Guitarists
First, the tweet that brought the matter to many people’s attention:

It turns out that the research that was referenced is from a study published earlier this year titled ‘Extreme metal guitar skill: A case of male-male status seeking, mate attraction, or byproduct?’ To quote:
This study explores the idea that heterosexual male metal guitarists are motivated to invest heavily in getting good at guitar to primarily impress other men. The study’s results provide some support for this idea. Additionally, metal guitarists also seem to be somewhat motivated by a desire for casual sex.

The message in this PSA occupies all of 30 seconds (a part of which is in slo-mo). It is prefixed by 90 seconds of padding that is as surreal as you can imagine any spot from Thailand to be.

Ryan Reynolds is in great form in this new spot for Mint Mobile that piggybacks on the inflation-defying pricing of AriZona Iced Tea.
Big Oil Bashing
A satirical PSA takes aim at Chevron (though the fast-paced disclaimer also mentions other oil behemoths). Adam McKay, probably best known for directing The Big Short, seems to be the creative force behind this spoof ad.
Biden Calls Out to Dead Congresswoman
To quote from a news report:
President Joe Biden mistakenly sought out Republican Rep. Jackie Walorski of Indiana at a news conference Wednesday, less than two months after putting out a statement mourning her death.
Biden was speaking at a White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health when he thanked bipartisan elected officials who introduced legislation to convene the conference. Walorski was among them.
"Jackie are you here? Where's Jackie?," Biden said, looking to the side and saying in a soft voice, "she was going to be here."
A few excerpts from the responses given by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at the press briefing to journalists who enquired about what had happened:
Q: What happened in the hunger event today? The President appeared to look around the room for an audience member, a member of Congress who passed away last month. He seemed to indicate she might be in the room. What happened there?
A: The President was naming the congressional champions on this issue and was acknowledging her incredible work. He had — he had already planned to welcome the congresswoman’s family to the White House on Friday. There will be a bill signing in her honor this coming Friday.
So, of course, she was on his mind. She was of top of mind for the President. He looks — very much looks forward to discussing her remarkable legacy of public service with them when he sees her family this coming Friday.
Q: He said, “Jackie, are you here? Where’s Jackie? She must not be here.”
A: No, I totally understand. I just — I just explained she was on top of mind. You know, this wasn’t — what we were able to witness today and what the President was able to lift up in this — at this conference at this event was how her — her focus on wanting to deal with, combat food — food insecurity in America. And this is something that he was lifting up and honoring.
Q: If the late congresswoman was top of mind for the President and her family was expected to be here and that’s what he was thinking about, what — why was he looking for her?
A: Again, I don’t think it’s all that unusual to have someone top of mind, especially as there’s a big event — two big events — today and also Friday — that is going to occur.
Q: I think the confusing part is why, if she and the family is top of mind, does the President think that she’s living and in the room?
A: I don’t find that confusing. I mean, I think many people can speak to sometimes when you have someone top of mind, they are top of mind. Exactly that. And it is also — if you put it into the context, it’s not like it happened without — outside of context, right?
